Day 58

- Mile 800 - May 28th, 2015

Mile 800
Made it 20 miles today. Pretty good after staying up til 4am boozing around the campfire. Glasgow, VA is great! For hikers... They set up a shelter in town to accommodate hikers. It's 100 yards from a grocery store, gas station and the lone restaurant. Has a shower, don-jon and running water. I did 29 miles Monday but could barely move Tuesday. I zeroed in Glasgow with about 10 others and made the decision to enjoy the night. My hangover was gone after the first hill today. Body felt pretty good. Zeroes really do help.
The days have been great. Someone described it perfectly as " the way you kind of dreamt it would be." 50 plus days in and we're finally getting some perfect days. Miles come easier and easier. The hills aren't so bad and the legs never quit.
The snakes are out. I see two or three a day. Lot of deer as well.

Miles
One of my goals was to average 100 miles a week. Here are my weekly totals.
Week 1 = 102
Week 2 = 77
Week 3 = 92
Week 4 = 92
Week 5 = 89
Week 6 = 117
Week 7 = 72
Week 8 = 140
This week will be my least yet. It started with a zero in Glasgow and will probably contain 3 more zeros over the weekend. I've had a death in the family and will be getting picked up tomorrow for the funeral on Friday. From there, I will head to Charlottesville, VA to check on Salamander Farms and see some good friends. I hope to be back on the trail Sunday night or Monday morning.
More Lingo
Yogi-ING = Checking out others' picnic baskets. Bumming food.
Purist = Yours truly. No shortcuts, no yellow blazing, no aqua blazing, no alternate routes, no slack packing... Touch every white blaze there is. 2189.2 miles.
Slackpacking = Carrying a light pack for a day hike, while all your gear is resting at a hostel. Requires a shuttle.

I am amazed by your journey! Your writing logs make for great reading...I see wonderful fodder for an article in OUTSIDE. I just read a stat: Each year, thousands of hikers attempt a thru-hike; only about one in four make it all the way.
