Trail: Appalachian Trail     Goal: 2190 Miles
Dates: Mar 16 2017 - Aug 18 2017
As you see, I don't have a trail name (yet)... I thought about hiking the AT 20 years ago but it wasn't the right time. Now that I have the time, we'll see how my body will hold up. I have my own reasons driving me but it would be nice to help ... more

Not all work

Chestnut Knob - Mile 462 - Apr 29th, 2017

4/28 Happy Birthday Mandy!!!
I looked forward to today since the beginning ... the first time I ever knowingly walked onto the Appalachian Trail was just about 8 months ago in Atkins, Virginia. This time the path, though vaguely familiar, seemed different and incredibly satisfying. Starting out - with all that can go wrong - I wondered if I would make it this far... it feels good.
Oh my gosh... my pack weighed a ton coming out of Atkins... but I finally got to the Quarter Way Inn - very nice and relaxing... makes you want to take a whole day it's so peaceful ... good conversation for hours but as nice as that sounds... got to keep moving. I did drop my pack 10 pounds (Wayne & Mandy there's a box of clothes coming to your house) 😜 Got 3 boxes in Atkins ... thank you Momma, Uncle Bill and Mandy - how did you all know exactly what I needed!? Rest assured, it is all going to be put to good use. Enjoying a little Dr. McGillicuddy's while I work on this note! Someone inferred in a message that I was treating this like work... Yes and No. To be able to complete this daunting task in my aggressive time frame there must be some degree of discipline and commitment - much like work... but there are many things (maybe I don't write enough about them) that are quite enjoyable for me... I will try to share more of those stories. For now, I am going to sip on this beverage πŸ₯ƒ, look at the clear night sky πŸŒ™βœ¨and be thankful for all of you πŸ™ˆπŸ™‰πŸ™Š - easy workload tonight πŸ™‚.

I hope you did your 2016 taxes...today is the day to file. Be glad you're in the wild, not putting up with city life. Hope you're not on your back like a turtle, again. Enjoy your time and warmer weather is becoming more consistent as you approach May. Good luck, brother.

Hi Trey! We finally got into town and got battery chargers and cell service. It was such a blessing running into you and MO on the Mountain. We really enjoyed camping with y'all that one night. Thank you from the bottom of our heart for your words of wisdom, encouragement, and prayers. We are making our way slowly but surely one mile at a time towards Maine :) In Franklin NC right now and hope to be at NOC any April 3rd! Hope to see you again soon. God Bless!!!

Yes- I thought the same thing during Church!!! I don't believe it's a coincidence. I believe it's a blessing and a reassuring sign. When daddy had his brain surgery, he was sent to recover in room 316! His nurse's name happened to be Angel. Daddy and I spoke of such reassurance from God. It's not that I don't want you to go; rather we will miss you. However the worry and apprehension is lessened because of our faith! John 3:16
