Thanks for visiting! My name is Dane and I am an avid hiker based in New Hampshire, USA. I chose the trail name Baggins because I have a collection of hiking packs, backpacks, and travel duffels and I love each and every one of them in different situations and settings. I take a little too much pride in packing and preparation and take more pictures of my full packs or luggage than any normal person would, but it all pays off on the trail. I also love a good adventure!
On 9/1/18, I plan to hike a 1 day Pemigewasset (Pemi) Loop in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. The 32 mile hike will take me across 9 of New Hampshire's highest mountain tops with around 9,000 feet of total elevation gain throughout the day. Backpacker Magazine has rated the Pemi Loop as the 2nd hardest day hike in the USA. I plan to get started around 3:00 am on 9/1/18 and finish in 18-20 hours. There is only one hut along the route so food and water prep will be vital.
The hike will cross the following peaks:
1. Bondcliff - 4,265 ft
2. Bond - 4,698 ft
3. West Bond - 4,540 ft
4. South Twin - 4,902 ft
5. Garfield - 4,500 ft
6. Lafayette - 5,260 ft
7. Lincoln - 5,089 ft
8. Liberty - 4,459 ft
9. Flume - 4,328 ft
I was torn between a few wonderful charities as the current political state in our country has negatively impacted many. I chose to support two and split the proceeds evenly.
1. I chose The Nature Conservancy because they do amazing work to protect lands and waters that are important to all life on earth. I love the forests that I have had the opportunity to hike through and enjoy with others, and I hope that future generations will be enjoy it in the same way I have.
2. I also chose the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance. My wonderful girlfriend and I have family members that suffer depression and also Bipolar disorder. We understand the impact depression and bipolar disorder can have not only on the diagnosed individual, but also family members and friends that are supporting them. Mental health is not talked about enough and I believe it should be a top health priority in our country.
