First Hike Post Transplant
South Mountains State Park - Mile 0 - Mar 16th, 2018
June 24th 2016 was the last overnight trip I spent in the backwoods. This trip was long overdue; I definitely needed it. Grateful and thankful that Dave, Eddie, Scott and Zack made it for my inaugural post transplant hike.
We hiked to camp Friday night and back to the truck Saturday to get some forgotten gear. Fortunately for Zack and Eddie we happened to meet them at the parking lot. We helped them carry the feast back to camp. Needless to say we ate like kings! Shrimp and steak kabobs, sausages, brats and roasted potatoes.
On the second night while hanging in my hammock I heard a plastic bag rustling in camp. It must have been a bag stuck on a branch in our camp. It could have been from us or one of the adjacent sites. The rustling stopped and suddenly heard an animal sniffing in my ear! I smacked the side of my hammock and wrote it off as one of the vivid dreams caused by the side affects of one of my meds. Too embarrassed to say anything to the group, I kept it quiet. As we all stood around the fire having breakfast I asked if someone found the bag rustling through camp last night. Zack announced that it wasn't a bag that it was something walking on his entrance tarp to his tent! At that point I had to tell them about my encounter. We'd like to brag how we survived a bear encounter but realistically it was probably a dog from one of the other 5 sites close by.
Total mileage for this trip 8!
