A life long hiker, from the time I walked easy trails with my grandmother as a child, to recent years when I've done several big hikes in the White Mountains of NH. I'm totally enamored with the idea of thru hiking long trails. All I do is watch thru hiker videos in my free time. It's my turn now-- my friend Laura and I are starting with our local Massachusetts MidState Trail. I decided to try to raise awareness for a cause, and stumbled upon the HikeFor site which is perfect. I chose The Pat Brody Shelter for Cats not only because it has played a part in my life, but because I wanted to choose a Massachusetts based cause for this hike of a Massachusetts trail. PBS is located in Lunenburg MA. Since 1997, I have adopted five cats from them. They do an excellent job caring for the large number of cats in their care. My favorite part about adopting is that the cats are not contained in cages (unless in quarantine)-- they are loose within several different rooms, and you are free to mingle with them. It makes choosing the right cat so much easier, being able to interact in this way. There are also cat doors that lead to a very large outdoor enclosure. It's the best place a homeless cat could ask for. Please consider donating to them, so they can help as many kitties as possible. less
