My name is Cody Metcalf and I'm about to embark on a journey that I would love for you to be a part of! I will be hiking the full 2,650 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail from Canada to Mexico I am doing this is to raise awareness and support for those fighting Luekemia and Lymphoma cancers. Last year my sister Cassie was diagnosed with Lymphoma. What is Lymphoma? The lymphatic system is your body’s disease fighting network consisting of your lymph nodes, spleen, thymus gland, and bone marrow. The main types of Lymphoma are Hodgkin's and non Hodgkin's lymphoma. Treatment may include chemotherapy, radiation, and in rare cases a stem cell transplant. Cassie is one of the special cases who has mixed cells of both Hodgkin's and non Hodgkin's lymphoma meaning her cancer is stubborn and reoccurring. After what was thought to be a successful course of chemotherapy, we discovered her cancer was still present. She will now undergo a stem cell transplant to continue fighting herself. Cassie is a strong soul with a passion for camping and the outdoors, so I could not think of a better way to honor her tenacity. The struggle has been tough and she has shown more courage and strength than I could in a lifetime. Over the course of the next 7 months I will be preparing my body and mind for this incredible experience. I will be posting weekly updates and videos showing all of you my progress. I'll be interviewing avid hikers, backpackers, survivalist, and others who have had cancer effect them on a personal level. I want this campaign to not just be about raising funds, but rather about coming together to support a person who has given so much of herself and who would do the same if she could.
