As a tribute,to my father and to raise money for ALS I will be section hiking the Appalachian Trail approx. (500 miles). A little about myself. Since, my first deployment with the U.S. Army Overseas to the Middle East. I've had the strong urge, to just put my life on hold and hike the Appalachian Trail. To finally be able to decompress from life's struggles and think more clearly without day to day issue holding me back. Like, "Earl Shaffer" did after returning from overseas during WWII to become the first person to hike the Appalachian Trail. Meanwhile, my dream of hiking the Appalachian trail has continued to pass me by year after year. Which after reading a blog titled "Paul's Boots" I knew I need to put life on hold to complete this goal. Then I found "Hikefor.com" now I can not only can fulfill my dream, but help donate money for my causes through the pledges of sponsors. The main cause I'm trying to support is the ALS Association. On 05 JAN 2012, my dad died after along struggle with complications from ALS. With a strong family history of the disease on my fathers side of the family. There is a lot of unknowns as well when it comes to my own health and going back to the story of "Paul's Boots". I don't want to miss my chance and have regrets in the end. I want to succeed now while I can and have the memories of those days to keep me strong. less
