I love exploring the outdoors and will be embarking on my longest hike yet across Isle Royale National Park September 4th-12th! I will be hiking around 100 miles in the least visited national park in the lower 48.
I am so excited to do this, but I recognize that I have an extreme privelege to be able to choose to hike in a remote area such as Isle Royale for leisure. There are many migrants who journey across unforgiving land at our southern US border- a journey that may mean life or death and may even result in death. Unfortunately this is the outcome for hundreds of migrants each year. No one should be punished for searching for a better life, let alone die for it.
I firmly believe that love has no borders and that no one is illegal, and so I would like to take this opportunity to raise money for a non-profit organization called Border Angels. This organization provides humanitarian aid along the US-Mexico border. They do water drops in the desert, pay immigration bonds to reunite families, and provide free and low-cost legal services to immigrants among many other things. I hope you will consider contributing to #MilesForMigrants through a per-mile pledge. I intend on giving some of my own funds to this organization doing life-saving work as well. Border Angels engages in community education and awareness programs that include guided trips to the desert to place water along migrant crossing routes as well as to the border to learn about the history of US-Mexico border policy and experience the border fence firsthand. less
