It is hard to condense a person’ life into an “About†paragraph but here goes: I have been a Marine, iron worker, mechanic, millwright and cabinet maker. I went back to school in Alaska and became an industrial designer and worked for a large oil company there for 14 years. I moved back to West Texas and started my own small construction company and did residential and commercial jobs until I took a position as manager of a small independent oil company. After selling the field that we operated in West Texas, I started a consulting business which is what I do currently. I am winding down my consulting business as part of my preparation for this hike. Now that our kids are all grown, my wife and I have decided to make some changes in our lives. We are both artists and we intend to pursue our art now that we have the time. I have also dabbled in writing and intend to get serious about a couple of books that have been bubbling away in my mind over the years. As so often happens for most of us, we are too busy trying to make a living to actually live. I don’t really believe in retiring but I do believe in changing direction and this hike is my first step in doing that!
As part of my hike I am hoping to raise funds for the Semper Fi Fund. The Semper Fi Fund provides help to returning wounded Marines and veterans from other military branches. There are a lot of organizations out there, but these guys use almost every dollar of what they receive to directly help the veterans where it counts. Very little is used for overhead and administration. I would be honored for you to join me on this adventure and help America's warriors in the process. less
