Hi, I'm Danielle Jester. I hiked 1270 miles of the PCT in 2014, and this year I will be attempting another through-hike. I want this journey to really count this time around, in the sense that I want it to benefit people other than just myself. That's why I've chosen to hike for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (specifically the Northern California chapter) and the Wounded Warrior Project. My dad was diagnosed with MS in 1976, at the age of nineteen. I was born in 1990, so I've never known my dad without this disease. I've chosen to hike for the NMSS because while some funds they raise do go to finding a cure for Multiple Sclerosis, they also focus on providing physical and emotional support for people living with MS to enhance their quality of life, which is very important to me.
I've chosen to hike for the WWP because their cause really hits home with me, and how could it not? So many people come back from war with issues that the average person cannot even begin to comprehend, because they volunteered to put their lives on the line for us. The idea of their needs going unmet after they've been through hell breaks my heart, and I want to help give back to the soldiers who gave up everything for our country. less
