Hello everyone, and thank you for taking the time read this hikefor.com page. My name is Scott, and I am a native of Montgomery Alabama. In April, I will be setting off to hike the Continental Divide Trail (CDT), which runs from the U.S. / Mexican border to the U.S. / Canadian border. Very recently my motivation for hiking the CDT has changed. On February 2, 2018 my cousin Aimee was rushed to the emergency room with dangerously high blood pressure. For several days the doctors and hospital staff were at a loss as to what was causing Aimee's illness. One thing they did know was that her kidneys were shutting down, and she was immediately put on dialysis.
After many tests, and a kidney biopsy she was finally diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder known as Amyloidosis. One of the many problems that this disease causes is that it destroys the kidneys. At some point, Aimee will need a kidney transplant.
When I first decided to hike the Continental Divide Trail, it was a journey of self-discovery. Now, in addition to this journey of self-discovery, I am also doing this to honor my cousin and her valiant fight. I hope you will consider contributing to the Amyloidosis Foundation through my hikefor.com page. Thank you very much for caring.
