This summer I will hike 2050 miles (3298 km) on the Pacific Crest Trail in the United States. Starting in the beginning of April at Walker Pass in California, I will walk along the mountain ridges of the Pacific West Coast up north, further through Oregon and Washington, until I reach Canada in the end of September.
While I am doing all this walking, I hope to raise some money for a cause that I think merits our support:
The Ocean Cleanup is an independent initiative committed to tackling the plastic pollution problem in our oceans. About 8 million tons of plastic enter our oceans every year and accumulate in 5 big currents, the gyres. This plastic has serious impacts on the environment, the economy and our health. The people behind the project are developing a cleanup system consisting of a floating network of barriers, which can extract this plastic for recycling. My page will be open to receive pledges until I finish my hike, so you can pledge now, at 500 miles when I'm ready to quit, at 1025 miles when I'm halfway, or at the end when I enter Canada.
