In the summer of 2016 I will be hiking all 486 miles of the Colorado Trail with a few additional miles thrown in for exploring some summits along the way. To be completely honest, hiking this trail has been a bucket list item of mine for a long time. However, I'd also like to use my hike to raise some money for a cause that is often a taboo conversational subject. That cause is bipolar disorder. I spent the majority of my life with untreated bipolar disorder. In 2014, I was finally accurately diagnosed. In early 2015 I finally decided to get treatment. Proper treatment has completely changed my life for the better. It's only now after being properly treated, that I can see how deeply bipolar disorder was affecting me. Many of my loved ones who were spectators to my emotional roller coaster for so many years have seen and commented on the changes in my life. I owe my life to a few key people that helped me through my countless peaks and valleys. And during a few of my darkest days, I was helped by people at group meetings that were organized by the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA). So, I am humbly asking for people to sponsor my hike so we can together raise money for a great organization that makes direct and real impact in people’s lives.
