Early Planning

Welcome to my journal. At this point we have a bit over 5 months before our big, fun hike. I'm already preparing, to help spread out the cost of items needed and to make sure my achilles tendon will be up to the task. I stressed it last fall doing a lot of big hikes, and it's been nagging at me. I gave it some time off but after a 3.5 mile "easy" hike, it began acting up again.
I had a two week chunk of time in early August when my daughter will be at her dad's house, so Laura my co-hiker in crime managed to also get that time frame off so we could do our hike.
I sent for the MidState Trail Guide Book, and studied it cover to cover. I made some notes at mileage points based on other thru-hikers' accounts, to try to help with things like camp sites and water as we go.
I've been compiling a wish list on Amazon of a bunch of things I need to get between now and the hike. One thing I went ahead and bought was my backpack. I needed a bit more room than my REI Trail40 would give me so I did some research and got myself a lovely Osprey Sirrus 50. I love it.
Been wanting to get myself some crocs as camp shoes or to use for water crossings. The price is not right on crocs IMO and I lucked out at Target this morning, finding some perfect croc knock-offs for only $10/pair. They were a bit picked over so I was happy to find my size.
Been working on my packing list for the hike which will probably be in a perpetual state of constant tweaking until July. I know it's not the AT and it's "only" 93 miles, but it's still a fantastic adventure and I want to plan well.
So for right now I'm not hiking or walking. Just icing the achilles and doing some very light isometric exercises for it.
Thanks for stopping by!
