For the past few years I've been consumed with the idea and dream of attempting a thru-hike of the 2,190 mile long Appalachian Trail. The dream is close to becoming a reality as I am lucky to have found a way to set aside 5 months of my life and set out on the trail next February, 2017!
I am going to hike for and fundraise for the Sunshine Kids Foundation. The Sunshine Kids Foundation is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping kids with cancer. They raise money to help inspire and encourage children struggling with cancer through positive group activities and emotional support. See what they are about at their website here:

As a childhood cancer survivor myself, I can't think of a better way to give back than to help inspire children struggling through cancer treatment that they can still grow up and do big things!
As I reflect upon my experience with childhood cancer, the only sadness stems from thinking about my parents and pain they must have felt hearing that I had cancer, watching me struggle with chemotherapy, and the fears of losing me. If only for a little, I'd love to help inspire parents whom have children currently struggling through cancer. I'd love to share with them some hope, that their child can also grow up and still do big things! less
