Fever Dreams
Starkville, MS - Mile 0 - Feb 2nd, 2020
Friday night, I started getting feverish. My temperature got over 100. I took some medicine and got in bed, telling my husband I hoped the fever would be gone before my hike the next morning. He was surprised that I still planned to hike. Maybe a little less surprised than when I broke my toe and insisted on hiking the next day. There was no way I was going to miss this hike. I had organized it, for one thing. I found a group called FitWalk (or they found me) and I invited them to hike my favorite trail. 20 people showed up. 20! We had great weather and a little bit of sunshine. We had a 10 yr old boy and a sweet hiking dog. We had geocachers and trail mix sharers, and a beautiful hike through the woods. The other hikers were interested in the gear I was carrying in my 28-pound pack. I was happy to show it to hikers to get someone else's input on my choices. My fever has gone just as my toe healed. I am stronger all the time. Amicolola, Expect me.
